Tuesday, September 24, 2019 is National Voter Registration Day, is National Voter Registration Day, when we ensure participation in our country’s democratic process by registering to vote or updating our records. While those who are eligible to vote can register anytime during operating hours at any Library location, a number of special voter registration activities take place September 24 in partnership with the Kansas City Board of Elections and the League of Women Voters.
 

On Sept. 24, visit any of our locations and get registered in one of two ways:

1. Library staff can provide a voter registration card for you to fill out and mail.
2. Trained registrars at Library locations can register people immediately in-person. 

Special Voter Registration Day activities include:
 

•  Bluford Branch will have voter registrars available from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
•  At the Central Library between 9-11:45 a.m., Kansas City Board of Elections (KCEB) will demonstrate voting equipment, and The Whole Person and League of Women Voters (LWV) will be present to provide information and answer questions. Registrars will also be on site between noon-2 p.m.
•  North-East Branch hosts LWV registrars between 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Young guests can try out a children’s voting booth.
•  Plaza Branch hosts LWV volunteers between 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
•  Southeast Branch hosts voter registrars between 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Additionallly, there will be a book display about voting, patrons can pick up small copies of the U.S. Constitution, and the film Suffragette screens at 11 a.m.
•  Trails West Branch hosts LWV volunteers from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
•  Waldo Branch will have a special display, and voter registrars will be available throughout operating hours that day, 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Young guests can try out a children’s voting booth.
•  Westport Branch hosts LWV volunteers from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

Voter Registration Information and Resources

The Library offers a number of ways to help you get registered and ready to vote in local, state, and federal elections. Go over what you need to complete or update registration, access voter education and information tools, and explore more at kclibrary.org/voter-registration.

Voter Resources

You can register to vote in Kansas City (within Jackson County) if you:

•     Will be 18 by the time of the next election.
•     Are a resident of Kansas City, within Jackson County, and a United States citizen. (Sorry, we are unable to register residents from other states)
•     Are not judicially declared incompetent.
•     Are pardoned, discharged or released from any felony conviction.
•     Have never been convicted of any crime related to voting.

 

You need to re-register to vote if:

• you move
• you change your name
• complete a felony sentence

Check your registration status:

• Missouri residents
• Residents of other states

HOW TO GET RegistERED

There are 3 ways to register or re-register to vote:

1. Online
2. In person at any permanent voter registration sites (which includes any KCPL location!)
3. Download, print, and complete this Voter Registration Form and mail it to:

You must provide proof of identification to register to vote. Acceptable forms of ID are:

• Current ID issued by the state of Missouri, an agency of the state, or a local election authority of the state (like a Missouri driver’s license)
• Current ID issued by the United States government or agency (like a passport or military ID)
• Current ID issued by an institution of higher education, including a university, college, vocational or technical school located within the state of Missouri
• A copy of a utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document that contains the name and current address of the registrant
