Accessibility at the Library

We recognize diversity forms the cornerstone of a successful organization and are building a foundation of inclusion utilizing our varied perspectives, beliefs, and lived experiences. Our Locations

The Kansas City Public Library offers many options for free and rental spaces. Most of these spaces are accessible according to ADA guidelines. The few spaces which are not completely accessible have been clearly marked on the website.

Bluford

Accessible Parking Location: Parking lot, west side of building.
Accessible Entrance: Main entrance.

Central

Accessible Parking Location: Library parking garage, second, third, and fourth floors.
Accessible Entrance: 10th street, just east of main entrance. Includes elevator to first floor and vault level.
Elevator Locations: First floor, main bank and freight elevator east of circulation desk.
Additional Information: Use freight elevator for access to second floor children’s area or 3North Resource Center.

North-East

Accessible Parking Location: Parking lot, north side of building.
Accessible Entrance: Main entrance.

Plaza

Accessible Parking Location: Main level, north side of the Library parking garage.
Accessible Entrance: Main entrance.
Elevator Location: Main floor east of circulation desk.

Ruiz

Southeast

Elevator Location: Main level north of circulation desk.

Other Languages

All Locations

Staff at all locations have access to CyraCom/Voiance over-the-phone interpreting. This service offers high-quality language services in hundreds of languages. Find a list of all phone interpretation languages available here.

Central

Has access to a Video Relay Service for deaf and hard of hearing patrons that know ASL. Come to the OneNorth Technology Lab to make interpreter-assisted phone calls.

North-East

Has a full-time Bilingual Associate that can speak English and Spanish on staff.

Assistive Technology

The Kansas City Public Library is committed to ensuring all of our patrons have access to information. This includes making our technology accessible for those of all differing abilities. The Whole Person

If you need assistance outside of what the Library offers, The Whole Person offers a broad range of services to people with disabilities to increase their ability to perform day-to-day activities.

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines offer recommendations for making web content more accessible for people with disabilities, and a better experience for everyone.
