Although access to our physical buildings is still currently limited to holds pickup service and computer appointments, during Voter Registration Day, you can drop by any KC Library location in person to register to vote! Complete a registration postcard, and the Library will take care of getting it to your local election board.

The Library and the Kansas City Health Department are teaming up for a one-stop voter service event as part of Voter Registration Day. Between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Sept. 22, you can visit us as the Health Dept.’s offices, where the Library can help you can check your voter registration status, register to vote, request an absentee or mail-in ballot, or get your mail-in ballot envelope notarized. While you’re there, you can also respond to the 2020 Census online.
VOTER REGISTRATION INFORMATION AND RESOURCES
The Library offers a number of ways to help you get registered and ready to vote in local, state, and federal elections. Go over what you need to complete or update registration, access voter education and information tools, and explore more at kclibrary.org/voter-registration.
You can register to vote in Kansas City (within Jackson County) if you:
- Will be 18 by the time of the next election.
- Are a resident of Kansas City, within Jackson County, and a United States citizen. (Sorry, we are unable to register residents from other states)
- Are not judicially declared incompetent.
- Are pardoned, discharged or released from any felony conviction.
- Have never been convicted of any crime related to voting.
You need to re-register to vote if:
- you move
- you change your name
- complete a felony sentence

HOW TO GET REGISTERED

There are 3 ways to register or re-register to vote:
- Online
- In person at any permanent voter registration sites (which includes any KCPL location!)
- Download, print, and complete this Voter Registration Form and mail it to:

Note: You will need to provide proof of identification when registering in-person. Acceptable forms of ID are:
- Current ID issued by the state of Missouri, an agency of the state, or a local election authority of the state (like a Missouri driver’s license)
- Current ID issued by the United States government or agency (like a passport or military ID)
- Current ID issued by an institution of higher education, including a university, college, vocational or technical school located within the state of Missouri
- A copy of a utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document that contains the name and current address of the registrant

NOTARY SERVICES FOR MAIL-IN & ABSENTEE BALLOTS
Ballots must be signed, notarized, and received by the Election Board before 7 p.m. on election day. Ballots received after the deadline will not be counted. Voters can have their ballot envelope notarized for free at the following locations:
