Fixer-Upper: How to Repair America’s Broken Housing Systems

Presented By
Jenny Schuetz

Across the United States, the housing system is unequal. While financially well-off Americans can afford comfortable, stable homes – millions of others can't. In her latest book, Fixer-Upper: How to Repair America’s Broken Housing Systems, Jenny Schuetz suggests housing could be within reach for more Americans – through building political coalitions among diverse groups.

As part of the Making a Great City series, Schuetz discusses how local, state, and national housing policies led to inequities – in health outcomes, educational achievements, and wealth generation. She also explores how to create the housing that is urgently needed.

An economist, author, and speaker, Schuetz is a Senior Fellow at Brookings Metro. Her research focuses on improving housing and land use policies.
