National Library Week: Celebrating Stardom in the Stacks

Thursday, March 31, 2022
Drop by the Library this week. Say hello to a superstar … to a building full of them.

We’re observing National Library Week, which runs through Saturday, April 9. This year’s theme, Connect With Your Library, underscores the role of libraries – here in Kansas City and nationwide – in connecting individuals, families, and entire communities to an array of crucial resources, from internet access and digital devices to programs, classes, and of course books.

Saturday Night Live alum Molly Shannon, the creator of dream-to-be-a-movie-star character Mary Katherine Gallagher, serves as honorary chair. Which got us to thinking about superstars – our superstars, the librarians and other dedicated staff members across the Kansas City Public Library’s 10 locations and many more departments and programs.

Join us in recognizing the many ways they strive to support and serve our city and its people. Despite the challenges posed by the global COVID-19 pandemic, the Library and its nearly 300 staffers have continued working to ensure all Kansas Citians can access vital resources and opportunities. We’ve launched new services, reimagined existing ones, collaborated with area partners to respond to community needs, and done what libraries do best: Help our patrons solve problems and seek solutions.

Superstar stuff.

Below is just a sampling (or a list ... we love lists!) of the ways the Library impacts you and our community every day, with a collection of images of the people who directly deliver our services:

...and so much more.
