  • Available for all ages
  • User must not have an existing or recently expired library card at the Kansas City Public Library
  • Applicants must live within the bi-state Kansas City metropolitan region
  • eCards are immediately active upon verification of email address

What Your eCard Unlocks

While you gain immediate access to our full range of digital services from the comfort of your own phone or computer, because of the Library's response to the Coronavirus, eCard users can now place holds on 10 items, borrow 10 items, and login to our public use computers.

Already have a Kansas City Public Library card? There's no need to apply for an eCard! If you have a traditional card and live in the Kansas City metro area, you already have access to our digital resources.

Full Access Physical Library Cards

Anyone living in Missouri and Kansas can visit one of our library locations to gain access to library materials, facilities and *digital services. Picture I.D. and proof of your current address is required. Address can be verified with current ID, utility bill, property lease, postmarked letter addressed to you. Without address verification there may be restrictions on the account.

Youth 13 or older do not need permission from a parent or guardian to obtain a physical library card. They must present one piece of ID—a school ID, class schedule, lunch ticket, state ID, driver's license, or other reasonable documentation. A parent or guardian may provide verbal identification if present. Youth are responsible for materials checked out.

Children 12 and younger may be issued a physical library card with a parent or guardian’s signature. Children should be present at the time of application. The parent or guardian's signature acknowledges responsibility for the library card and material borrowed against the card. ID is not required.

What Your Physical Card Unlocks

With a physical card, you not only have the ability to access our

*digital services, but you can also check out up to 75 physical items from any of our locations and place holds on up to 100 physical items. A physical card can also be used to log into a public use computer at any of our locations.

My Library Card Account Online

If you have a Library Card, you also have an online account. You can use this account to manage your holds, checkouts, and renewals; to set up a personal profile; to create lists; and to rate and comment on items in the Library's collection. Participation in the catalog's social and sharing features is not mandatory and you can keep your activity private.

If it's your first time logging into the catalog, login with your Library card number (no spaces) and your PIN. Once logged in, you'll be prompted to create a username. You can then login to your catalog account with either your username or your Library card number.

To logout of your account, click on your username in the upper-right corner and select Log Out.

I Lost My Card, What Should I Do?

Please call 816.701.3400 to report the lost card and visit your nearest library location with ID to replace it.

My Card Expired! How Do I Renew It?

Every two years, the Library needs to check in with you to verify or update your name, mailing address, phone number or email address. This allows us to maintain accurate information for courtesy emails, overdue notices and other communication about your library account. You can renew by:

How Do I Change My PIN

To change your PIN login to your online account, click on your username in the upper-right corner, and select My Settings. Then click on Change where it states "Change your account PIN".
