Gabriella Polony Mountain’s generosity made the Library’s newest art gallery possible. Appropriately, as the gleaming exhibit space opens on the second floor of the downtown Central Library, her bold, colorful sculptures, mosaics, stained glass, repoussé, and weavings are the first to fill it.
The exhibit in the Rocky and Gabriella Mountain Gallery spotlights the 96-year-old Hungarian émigré who arrived in America in 1951 with her first husband, their luggage, and $120 and soon was winning awards for her commissioned pieces. Today, her lifetime body of work establishes Polony Mountain as one of the most talented and diverse artists in Kansas City.
