Second Annual Book Lovers and Book Clubs Conference

The second annual Book Lovers and Book Clubs Conference takes place on Saturday, November 6, from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Central Library, 14 W. 10th St. with an author lineup that highlights the premier voices of contemporary fiction.

Essence magazine bestselling authors Victoria Christopher Murray and Victor McGlothin, Nappily series creator Trisha Thomas, and the writing team of Virginia DeBerry and Donna Grant will hold open dialogue sessions in which they will answer questions from the audience.

“So often, readers are alone when enjoying their favorite stories,” said Kim Riley, founder and organizer of Book Lovers and Book Clubs. “Finally, Kansas City book clubs and die-hard readers get a chance to come together and talk about their favorite villains, plot lines and love scenes with the authors who brought the unforgettable stories to life. Most of the attendees are women who view the conference as a chance to gather with like-minded readers and indulge in some long overdue ‘me-time.’”

The all day event begins with registration and complimentary continental breakfast at 8 a.m., followed by a local book club discussion that will touch on strategies ranging from keeping a club fun to handling members who don’t read the book for discussion. From 10 a.m. – noon, the featured authors will hold the open dialogue sessions before participating in luncheon panel discussion and book signing reception.

While the event is free and open to the public, the luncheon is free with a $25 membership purchase to join the Friends of the Kansas City Public Library.
