Overcharged: Why Americans Pay Too Much for Health Care

Presented By
David Hyman, Charles Silver

The U.S. spends far more than other developed nations on health care—a projected $3.8 trillion this year—yet lags in performance and customer satisfaction. Latest polling showed that 70 percent of respondents see our system “in a state of crisis” or having “major problems,” with cost and dysfunction among the major issues.

David Hyman and Charles Silver examine the concerns and offer solutions in a discussion of their book Overcharged. Among their remedies: subjecting health care providers to the same competitive forces as other businesses.

Hyman directs the Epstein Program in Health Law and Policy at the University of Illinois, and Silver is a law professor and endowed chair in civil procedure at the University of Texas. The event is co-presented by the Show-Me Institute.
