Lies My Teacher Told Me About Slavery and the Underground Railroad

Presented By
James Loewen

James Loewen, best-selling author of Lies My Teacher Told Me, gives an original presentation on misconceptions about slavery and the Underground Railroad on Thursday, July 29, at 6:30 p.m. at the Central Library, 14 W. 10th St.

The talk coincides with the exhibit Color in Freedom: Journey Along the Underground Railroad, on display at the Central Library through August 1, 2010.

Loewen's gripping retelling of American history as he thinks it should and could be taught continues to inspire teachers to get students to challenge, rather than memorize, their textbooks. He has been an expert witness in more than 50 civil rights, voting rights, and employment cases.
