All Library locations will be closed Tuesday, December 24 & Wednesday, December 25, for the Christmas holiday.
2024 marks the 11th year for the Art in the Loop Project – a temporary art exhibition and performance series that runs from late May through early November in downtown Kansas City and along the KC Streetcar route.
This year, artists responded to the theme of convivencia – a shared life with others that takes constant practice, effort, and negotiation, while recognizing friction or opposing energy. Tommi Laitio spoke about the importance of public spaces as places with convivencia in his December talk launching the Library’s 150th anniversary celebration.
The Art in the Loop preview will be filled with art and music. Mix and mingle with visual art director Marissa Starke, performing art director Jade Osborne, and some of the 2024 visual and performance artists. The reception continues throughout the evening, including two performances and a social practice presentation.
The annual curated outdoor exhibition of temporary artworks is presented in partnership with the KC Streetcar and the Downtown Council. Events in June will also feature performing artists, musicians, poets, dancers, aerial performers, and more.
