The Kansas City Sound: A History of Local Music from Jazz to Punk

Presented By
Cody Wyoming

Musician and entertainer Cody Wyoming has been a part of Kansas City’s underground music scene for more than 30 years. But he’s also a music historian and is working to trace the history of music in Kansas City.

From the arrival of the first piano in 1850 to the thriving 1920s and ’30s jazz scene to the emergence of punk rock and the contemporary scene, he talks about cataloging and recording the rich and varied music that gives Kansas City its own unique sound.

Wyoming has been in dozens of bands over the years and today plays with The Philistines, The Pedaljets, Cody Wyoming & The Deal, and The Guillotine Choir.
