The End of Overeating

Presented By
David Kessler

Former Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. David Kessler discusses his new book The End of Overeating and offers insights on how to break unhealthy eating habits on Monday, October 11, at 6:30 p.m. at the Plaza Branch, 4801 Main St.

Kessler contends that food manufacturers manipulate our appetites by adding sugar, salt, and fat to our favorite foods, setting in motion the desire to overeat.  He cracks the code of overeating by explaining how our bodies and minds are changed when we consume these foods and what we can do to alter our behavior.  Kessler claims that food manufacturers create products by manipulating ingredients to stimulate appetites, setting in motion a cycle of desire and consumption that ends with a nation of overeaters.

In addition to serving as FDA commissioner under presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton, Kessler is a pediatrician and has been dean of the medical schools at Yale and University of California – San Francisco.

The event is co-sponsored by Rainy Day Books. Autographed books will be available for sale.
