Pulitzer Prize-winning film critic Roger Ebert curates the annual Off-the-Wall Film Series, presenting a cross section of his favorite films called EbertfestKC.
In the summer of 1942, Willie (Frankie Muniz) is rescued from loneliness by a rascally terrier pup. Ebert’s review of My Dog Skip: "A movie like this falls outside ordinary critical language. Is it good or bad? Is there too much melodrama? I don’t have any idea… they don’t seem relevant to the actual experience of this movie. If there was ever a day or even a minute when your dog was not your best but your only friend, you’ll see what I mean."
Films are screened outside on the Rooftop Terrace. Filmgoers are welcome to bring seating. In case of inclement weather, screenings will be moved indoors to Helzberg Auditorium.
The EbertfestKC film line-up also includes:
The Band's Visit (2007) on September 17. A touring band comprised of members of an Egyptian police force becomes lost in a small Israeli town, bringing together two cultures for a memorable yet unimportant evening. Ebert's review: "The movie avoids what we might expect, a meeting of the minds, and gives us instead a sharing of quiet desperation."
