Library Giving Day is April 1! Your support ensures that all Kansas Citians have access to books, eBooks, audiobooks, and library services.
The Library continues its examination of immigration in America with a screening of the film My American Girls: A Dominican Story and discussion of the enormous role of family and community in immigrants’ adaptation to American life.
My American Girls follows a hardworking family in Brooklyn, New York. The parents hope to retire to their native Dominican Republic; their U.S.-born and assimilated daughters have other ideas.
University of Missouri-Kansas City historian Sandra Enriquez leads the subsequent discussion. The Becoming American series is a project of New York’s City Lore, and is made possible by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
