Free movies are shown in the Durwood Film Vault, an original bank vault converted into a 28-seat movie theatre at the Central Library.
Your KCPL account gives you access to thousands of movies; films to check out from our Central Vault collection as well as to stream from Kanopy and hoopla. Our staff, Cullen and James, will announce a movie to discuss at the beginning of each month. You’ll have a few weeks to watch the movie. Then, on the third Wednesday of each month at 6:00 p.m., we will meet on ZOOM and discuss. You can pop your own popcorn, wear your fuzzy slippers (or your dinner jacket) and talk cinema. See you at the movies!
The grand finale of Gregg Araki's Teen Apocalypse Trilogy, Nowhere charts a day in the hilarious and tragic life of Dark Smith (James Duval), a pansexual 18-year-old obsessed with the end of the world and finding his one true love in a surreal, psychedelic Los Angeles. The object of his affection, Mel (Rachel True), feels for him deeply but can't commit herself to any one person or gender, splitting her time between Dark and her acid-tongued girlfriend, Lucifer (Kathleen Robertson). Dark, meanwhile, becomes enthralled by Montgomery (Nathan Bexton), literally a vision to behold beneath the golden California sun. The film's hyper-stylized, weblike narrative features an all-star ensemble cast that includes Christina Applegate, Scott Caan, Heather Graham, Ryan Phillippe, Mena Suvari, Debi Mazar, Shannen Doherty, and Rose McGowan.
This program is intended for individuals 18 years and older.
