FilmCentral: 'A New Leaf'

Series: FilmCentral

Your KCPL account gives you access to thousands of movies; films to check out from our Central Vault collection as well as to stream from Kanopy and hoopla. Our staff, Cullen and James, will announce a movie to discuss at the beginning of each month. You’ll have a few weeks to watch the movie. Then, on the third Wednesday of each month at 6:00 p.m., we will meet on Microsoft Teams and discuss. You can pop your own popcorn, wear your fuzzy slippers (or your dinner jacket) and talk cinema. See you at the movies!

Join us this month as we discuss legendary writer-director Elaine May's black comedy gem A New Leaf, in which Henry (Walter Matthau), a confirmed bachelor with a zest for luxuries, receives the shocking news that he is now broke after burning through his family fortune. Henry’s spirits are low as he returns to his town-house to discuss the situation with his butler, who suggests marriage as a way out. Zeroing in on rich wallflower Henrietta (played by director May), Henry plots to get his hands on her money - but could feelings get in the way of his master plan?
