Character Building: How to Breathe Life into Your Characters

A story’s characters are what gives it a beating heart. From their innermost thoughts and words to the complex choices they make, this course will walk you through bringing your characters to life on the page by crafting crisp dialogue, describing appearance, showing action, and more. Come read some expert examples, then write your own scene and make some characters live and breathe.

This class is taught by a graduate student in the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s MFA Program in Creative Writing.
