What does it take to build a ballet—like the Kansas City Ballet’s upcoming production of The Wizard of Oz—from scratch?
Acclaimed choreographer Septime Webre, who created and choreographs the imaginative adaptation of the beloved book and 1939 film, headlines a discussion of the undertaking, which arose from a more than $1 million collaboration among the Kansas City Ballet, Colorado Ballet and Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet. Also among the panelists: KC Ballet Artistic Director Devon Carney.
Webre is Artistic Director of the Hong Kong Ballet. His The Wizard of Oz, featuring original costumes, sets, projections, and special effects, premieres October 12-21 at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.
The event is co-presented by the Kansas City Ballet as part of its adult education series, Dance Speaks.
