It's April! Find Your Joy!
“Find Your Joy” is an invitation for all community members to explore and discover what sparks joy in them at the Library during National Library Week from April 19-25. This annual event created by the American Library Association highlights “the valuable role libraries, librarians, and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening our communities.”
In 2024, the Library was overjoyed to host Mychal Threets, this year’s honorary National Library Week chair. Threets, PBS’s resident librarian, TikTok star, and host of the Reading Rainbow reboot, uses his platform to promote library joy, which can be found in books of all formats — picture books, graphic novels, audio books, and more — and in the wide array of programs available at libraries.
Threets told the audience at the annual Heartland Book Festival: “The library’s always been the most joyful place in the world to me. I talk about joy incessantly online. It’s my favorite thing, my favorite word. Joy is there for us whenever we need it, every second, every minute, every day, every single year. Libraries are such a big part of that joy.”
Children and adults alike can find their joy at the Library not just throughout April, but every day, by browsing the stacks, interacting with others, and attending free activities like sing-alongs, yoga, writing classes, storytimes, movies, craft workshops, and even an event about mushroom hunting.
