Cozy Up to the Library for Winter Fun
According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, that slim yellow book first published in 1792 with forecasts and gardening tips, winter in the Kansas City metro is expected to be warmer than usual. The coldest stretches are likely in mid-December and early and late January.
But will there be snow? On December 1, the first day of meteorological winter, the Kansas City metro is experiencing an arctic blast. But the snowiest periods are expected in late January and early February.
This December, whether you stay indoors by the fireplace with hygge, the Danish word for coziness, or bundle up for brisk walks in the cold using the three-layer rule, you can count on the Library for reading lists, movies, activities, and books ... about the weather. About winter in Denmark. Or about anything you'd like to know.
Join Art Club every Thursday in December at the North-East Branch for painting, drawing, and winter-themed crafts. On December 9, the Central Library hosts Mossy Masterpieces: Winter Edition, where you can make wreaths with colorful moss and paint.
If you want to start indoor gardening, come to Winter Sowing at the Plaza Branch on December 13. Also on December 13, librarians and book lovers from five library systems across the metro recommend page-turning picks at the Reading Roundup at the Central Library.
