With the United States’ unemployment rate still hovering around 6.7% (nearly a full percentage point higher than the historical average), the Kansas City Public Library has announced a second installment in its popular Job Club guidance and support series.

Led by Rhiannon Johnson, the Library’s career development and personal finance specialist, the Job Club combines practical advice for job seekers with elements of a support group for people struggling to find employment during these unprecedented times.

“It’s an opportunity for people to come together and build a community around searching for a job,” Johnson says. “The feedback from the first Job Club was overwhelmingly positive. People really liked the practical resources that they could apply immediately in their job search and appreciated the camaraderie of the group so they didn't have to go through the search alone."

Classes taught by Johnson and guest instructors include: refining your job search, writing a resume and cover letter, and honing your interview skills.

“The Job Club was very practical and thorough,” says one previous participant. “It gave many opportunities to dig into our job search with the resources provided.”

Anyone interested in participating in the Job Club should register by January 15, 2021. Dates and times will be set later to accommodate as many people as possible.
