Validating your parking in the Library

You can scan the validation QR code, located at the Central Library’s front desk, Central Youth Services, and Missouri Valley Special Collections, to begin the validation process. If you already have a Metropolis account, the validation will automatically apply to your active visit. If you do not have a Metropolis account, you must create one before the validation can be utilized. Please note that you will need your license plate number in order to create an account. Upon successful account creation, the validation will automatically apply to the active visit. Once the validation is applied, you can simply drive out! If a balance remains after the applied validation, the outstanding amount will be charged to your payment method on file; you will see the validation applied on your receipt. If you have any questions, please ask the parking garage attendant.

Please note: The Central Library parking garage has a maximum 8' (eight foot) clearance.

Access parking from the Baltimore entrance just north of 10th street.

When leaving the garage, please exit through the Baltimore gate on the lowest level. The payment method on file in your Metropolis account will be charged for the amount due. If you have a question and a parking attendant isn’t on site, you can press an “assistance” button and be connected via speaker to a remote attendant.

The Library only can validate parking for the Library District Garage at 10th and Baltimore. Other parking facilities in the area are managed by different organizations and will not accept parking validation from the Library.

The second, third, and fourth floors have accessible parking. An elevator is available on the East side of the garage. More accessibility information for Central Library.

The Library provides free parking validation for special Library programs. Some private events also provide free parking. Unique validation codes will be available at the location of those events. Please do not use the standard validation QR code located at the front desk, which may not provide validation for the entirety of the event.

When you add your credit card information to your Metropolis account, your credit card may show a temporary hold of $9.99 to verify your information. Once your credit card is verified, the pre-authorization amount will be removed. For subsequent visits to the parking garage, the pre-authorization amount will be $0.99.

Bring your license plate number into the Library and speak with a staff member to receive validation.

No—only one validation at a time can apply to any single active parking session.

Validation scans cannot be overridden, so be careful you are scanning the correct code. Please speak with a Library staff member before scanning if you have any questions.

This typically occurs when a validation QR code is scanned more than once. When a validation is applied, scanning the same (or other) validation QRs will prompt this error message.

First, visit app.metropolis.io and log in with your phone number to locate your active parking session. If your session still does not appear, contact Metropolis Customer Support via 856.485.9703 for further assistance.

It's not often that a parking garage can claim to be world famous. But the Community Bookshelf that adorns the front of the Central Library's garage is beyond ordinary!

It runs along the south wall of the Central Library's parking garage on 10th Street between Wyandotte Street and Baltimore Avenue. The book spines, which measure approximately 25 feet by 9 feet, are made of signboard mylar. The shelf showcases 22 titles reflecting a wide variety of reading interests as suggested by Kansas City readers and then selected by The Kansas City Public Library Board of Trustees. It was completed by the fall of 2004.
