The KC Library By Mail program is available to residents in the Kansas City Public Library service area who are physically unable to visit their neighborhood Library location. This service provides mail delivery of books, DVDs, CDs, and more, straight to your mailbox… at no cost to you!
How does it work?
At home patrons may request books, large print books, DVDs, music CDs, and audiobooks. Library staff will select materials matched to your interests.
Who is eligible for this service?
Patrons who meet the following criteria are eligible to register for KC Library by Mail.
- Must reside in the Kansas City Public Library service area.
- Self-certify you are unable to safely visit the library due to permanent or temporary health-related issues, mobility issues, physical limitations.
How do I receive materials?
- Items are checked out to you and mailed to your home in a reusable zippered nylon bag.
- You may have 30 items checked out at a time and keep them for six weeks.
- There are no overdue fines; however, there is a charge for lost or damaged items.
How do I return materials?
- Remove the top mailing label addressed to you from the plastic pocket on the nylon bag.
- A second mailing label is enclosed that reads Return to: KCPL Mobile Services. Leave this label in the plastic pocket. The postage is prepaid.
- Insert library materials to be returned into the bag and use the zip tie provided to lock the zipper bag.
- Place the bag in the appropriate place for your mail carrier to pick up.
