First Folio! The Book That Gave Us Shakespeare

Nearly four centuries after its publication, one of the world’s rarest and most valuable books – the first collection of William Shakespeare’s plays – comes to Kansas City. The Kansas City Public Library serves as the lone host site in Missouri for First Folio! The Book that Gave Us Shakespeare. The exhibit, on display on the fifth floor of the Central Library, is on tour from the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C., and features a 393-year-old copy of the First Folio, its pages opened to the most quoted line in the world: “to be or not to be” from Hamlet. Accompanying the book is a multi-panel exhibition exploring the significance of Shakespeare, then and now, with additional digital content and interactive activities.
