Before Jonathan Capehart won a Pulitzer Prize or even became a journalist, he was a young person sorting his identity and searching for belonging. Growing up shuttled between New Jersey and North Carolina, Capehart recalls hearing that he was too smart and not smart enough, too Black and not Black enough.
The MSNBC anchor shares stories from his personal journey and his new book Yet Here I Am. Capehart talks to KCUR 89.3 daytime announcer Paul Nyakatura about how he grew comfortable with his identity as a gay Black man during his undergraduate studies at Carleton College and how landing an internship at the Today Show put him on the career path he’d dreamed of his whole life.
