On Saturday, October 11, the Central Library is open to registered Heartland Book Festival attendees only. Regular services, such as hold pickups, public computers and phones, and public meeting rooms, will not be available.
The Library and the Greater Kansas City-Topeka Psychoanalytic Center continue this year’s Searching the Psyche Through Cinema series, which looks to the arts to illuminate our understanding of ourselves.
The second installment offers a screening and discussion of Waiting to Exhale (1995, R, 127 min.). Based on the best-selling Terry McMillan novel of the same name, it follows the lives of four very different friends (Whitney Houston, Angela Bassett, Loretta Devine, and Lela Rochon) working through the struggles and triumphs of everyday life.
Psychologist Jess Stacy and film critic Lonita Cook lead the discussion.
