Venetophilia

Presented By
Lucille Windsor, Paul Hindemith, Lamar Sims, Robert Gibby Brand

“To live in Venice, or even to visit it, means that you fall in love with the city itself,” renowned art collector and gallerist Peggy Guggenheim once said. “There is nothing left over in your heart for anyone else.”

That abiding attachment is commemorated in a special musical event, a 70-minute presentation celebrating Venice, incurable passions, and the library as your partner for any adventure. (The Kansas City Public Library offers an expansive collection of books on the idyllic capital of Italy’s Veneto region, including The Unfinished Palazzo: Life, Love and Art in Venice revolving around Guggenheim and two other notable Venetophiles.)

The afternoon program features four acclaimed Kansas City-area performers. Soprano Lucille Windsor and baritone Paul Hindemith provide vocals, accompanied by Lamar Sims on piano. Beloved Kansas City actor and singer Robert Gibby Brand joins them as a special guest.

They spotlight the works of classical composers and popular songwriters who lived, worked, and played in Venice, from Giuseppe Verdi and Gioachino Rossini to Cole Porter and Noel Coward.
