Presented By
Leigh Rubin

Leigh Rubin discusses his new book The Wild and Twisted World of Rubes, a collection of the best cartoons from his 25 years drawing the one-panel cartoon Rubes on Thursday, March 25, at 6:30 p.m. at the Plaza Branch, 4801 Main St.

Rubin will discuss his career as a cartoonist and use humor to emphasize the rewards of persistence and the fun of problem solving while celebrating the joy of creativity. His presentations seek to inspire attendees to add a little creativity to their own lives and to break their normal routine and think outside the box.

Nobody finds more fun and inspiration in dogs, cows, cats, kids, religion, weird and quirky people, and life in general than Rubin. Rubes began appearing in newspapers in 1984. Since, 1989 it has been syndicated by Creators Syndicate and has appeared in more than 400 newspapers worldwide. Rubes finds the fun in cows, dogs, religion, and quirky people. His strips typically feature animals that take on human-like attitudes and people who behave “oddly.”

The Wild and Twisted World of Rubes is published by Kansas City’s Andrews McMeel Publishing, which has produced compilations for comic strips such as Calvin and Hobbes, Fox Trot, and Get Fuzzy.

Copies of The Wild and Twisted World of Rubes will be available for sale, and Rubin will sign copies purchased during the event.
