'The Taste of Things'

Presented By
Robert Feuer & Trey Hock

The 2025 Searching the Psyche Through Cinema film series explores our relationship with food as a way of understanding ourselves. Join us for screenings in January, February, and March followed by a conversation.

The Taste of Things (PG-13, 134 min.) is a 2023 French romantic drama directed by Trần Anh Hùng. In 1889, Eugénie (Juliette Binoche) works as a cook on a country estate for the gourmet, Dodin Bouffant (Benoît Magimel). As Mashable describes, “It’s a film in which food is the language of love, and love in turn is a silent conversation between middle-aged professionals who are experts at their craft.”

A post-screening discussion is led by psychoanalyst Robert Feuer and film critic Trey Hock.
