Michelle Boisseau will present her newest book of poetry A Sunday in God-Years on Sunday, February 22, at 1:30 p.m. at the Plaza Branch, 4801 Main St.

A Sunday in God-Years takes its title from the notion that if we consider ourselves inside the long stretch of geologic time, human history happens in the blink of God’s eye as he rolls over during a Sunday nap. The book is centered around the long poem, A Reckoning, made up of 15 shorter poems/sections. The long poem recognizes the connections between the heirs of those who were slave holders, like the Boisseaus, and of those who were slaves.

Boisseau, whose work has appeared in Poetry, Kenyon Review, TriQuarterly, and Gettysburg Review, is a professor of English at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Her body of work, including No Private Life, Understory, and Trembling Air, helped her capture such honors as the Samuel French Morse Prize, an NEA fellowship, the Lucille Medwick Award, and the Cecil Hemey Award.

Copies of A Sunday in God-Years will be available for sale and Boisseau will sign copies purchased during the event.
