All Library locations will be closed Tuesday, December 24 & Wednesday, December 25, for the Christmas holiday.
Urban League of Greater Kansas City President Gwendolyn Grant leads a discussion of data from the State of Black Kansas City 2010 Equality Index on Tuesday, January 12, at 6:30 p.m. at the Central Library, 14 W. 10th St.
The 2010 Index indicates that black unemployment is three times that of whites, that more than three times as many blacks as whites live below poverty line, and that more than 50% of blacks do not have medical insurance.
Copies of the State of Kansas City 2010 Equality Index will be available. The Index is a bi-annual publication of the Urban League of Greater Kansas City in collaboration with the Center for Full Employment and Price Stability and UMKC’s Department of Economics.
Following the presentation, historian Bryan LeBeau answers the question “What would Abraham Lincoln think?” LeBeau says Lincoln’s answer would probably be different depending on at which stage of his career he was asked. Close consideration of his responses, LeBeau says, would offer great insight into a man far more complex and more human than popular history would lead us to believe.
