Reed Hoffmann’s career as a photographer spans more than three decades, and has brought him to inspiring locations both near and far. Inspiration on August 21 comes from above: a total solar eclipse whose path across the U.S. covers Kansas City and areas north.
Hoffmann, who has shot for The New York Times, USA Today, and the Associated Press, among other outlets, offers a tutorial on photographing the eclipse, from getting the right equipment to finding the best location and selecting the proper settings. Included are tips on photographing the early-afternoon event with digital SLR cameras, smart phones, and other devices.
Hoffmann, a Kansas Citian, has taught since 2002 at the Nikon School of Photography and annually leads a number of workshops around the U.S. and abroad.
