The Kansas City Star columnist Mary Sanchez hosts the second installment in the 2008-09 Second Sundays with KC Columnists series on Sunday, October 12, at 2 p.m. in the Truman Forum at the Plaza Branch, 4801 Main St.
Sanchez joined The Star’s Metro desk as a full-time columnist in July 2008. Prior to that, she served on the Editorial Board. She is a winner of the national Clarion Award and was a finalist in the American Society of Newspaper Editors column competition. In addition to her Metro column, Sanchez’s syndicated column appears on The Star’s editorial pages.
Sanchez has written columns and editorials on a wealth of topics, including the Kansas City school district, mental health, and immigration. She also edited the daily As I See It column and solicited diverse new writers from many minority communities.
The 2008-09 Second Sundays with KC Columnists series continues through April, with talks on the Second Sunday of each month by some of Kansas City’s favorite newspaper columnists.
Presenters discuss some of their favorite columns, share previously untold stories from their years in the newspaper business, and answer audience questions.
