O Brother, Where Art Thou?

This annual series returns in January and February with psychological studies of films directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, whose visionary work swings seamlessly between dark drama and wry, sometimes screwball comedy. A discussion follows each screening.

The Coens borrowed from Homer’s The Odyssey in weaving the Depression-era tale of three escapees from a Mississippi prison chain gang, led by the fast-talking Everett Ulysses McGill (George Clooney). Running for their lives, they embark on an incredible journey full of challenging experiences and colorful characters. Post-screening discussion led by psychoanalyst Bonnie Buchele and Kansas City Film Critics Circle member Beck Ireland.

This event is co-sponsored by: Greater Kansas City and Topeka Psychoanalytic Center and University of Missouri-Kansas City
