Art historian Carol Inge Hockett presents Nefertiti’s Sisters: Women in Ancient Egypt – an examination of the role of women in ancient Egypt as learned through sculptures, carvings, tomb paintings, and other forms of art – on Tuesday, May 11, at 1 p.m. at the Plaza Branch, 4801 Main St.
From the cult of Isis to the reign of Hatshepsut, Hockett will explore women’s lives in ancient Egypt and look at the structure of family, daily life, and women’s participation in worship.
Hockett is the coordinator of School and Family Programs at The Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell University.
The event is co-sponsored by Kansas City’s Art Study Club and complements the reopening of the Nelson-Atkins Museum’s Egyptian installation.
