Award-winning editorial cartoonist Lee Judge reflects on his 27 years at The Kansas City Star and shares some of his favorite unpublished cartoons – including many from the 2008 election – on Tuesday, December 9, at 6:30 p.m. at the Central Library, 14 W. 10th St.
Cartoons We’re a Little Afraid to Show You is a follow-up to Judge’s June 2007 program – Wine, Cheese, and Rolaids – which was one of the most popular events ever held at the Library, with more than 350 people attending.
Judge will share some of his favorite unpublished cartoons, with a special emphasis on those created since the 2007 talk. He will also offer insights into how he comes up with ideas for his cartoons and share stories about why some cartoons never make it into the paper.
Judge’s career at The Star ended in November during a third round of layoffs at Kansas City’s only daily newspaper. Judge will discuss his reaction to the announcement and the future of the newspaper industry.
Judge began his career drawing political cartoons for the Sacramento Union in 1976. He was hired by The Star in 1981. His political cartoons have appeared in hundreds of newspapers and magazines, including: The New York Times, The Washington Post, Washington Monthly, and National Review.
