In the contemporary elegance of the Central Library’s fifth-floor Helzberg Auditorium, saxophonist Vince Gnojek and pianist Holly Page present a selection of works ranging from classic Gershwin tunes to more recent arrangements by a trio of composers with University of Kansas roots.
Gnojek, a longtime professor of saxophone at KU, has performed with orchestras and wind ensembles across the country and around the world. Page is a professional accompanist and accomplished chamber musician. They spotlight George Gershwin in such pieces as “Summertime,” “Rhapsody in Blue,” and “I Got Rhythm,” and perform works by composers including David von Kampen (who earned his doctorate at KU), James Barnes (a professor emeritus at KU), and Kelly Mahon (who completed both master’s and doctorate degrees and also has taught at KU).
