The Life & Art of Frederic Chopin

Presented By
John Tibbetts

John Tibbetts, an associate professor of theater and film at the University of Kansas, marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Frederic Chopin with a multi-media presentation on the life and work of the composer.

Chopin moved in aristocratic circles and wrote brilliant waltzes, nocturnes, preludes, and etudes. Yet, despite the surpassing beauty of his music, he was plagued by guilt over deserting his family in war-torn Poland, suffered the public scandal of a controversial liason with notorious female novelist George Sand, and fell victim to an illness that took his life at age 39. The presentation includes clips from Hollywood biopics about Chopin's life as well as live performances of the composer's music.
