The most eventful year of Danny Clinkscale’s life took the veteran Kansas City sportscaster along on an exhilarating ride, highlighted by the hometown Royals’ back-to-back World Series appearances and 2015 championship. It also brought the challenge of a cancer diagnosis.
Clinkscale, who fills a variety of hosting and reporting roles at all-sports radio station WHB, stayed on-air as he went through skin cancer treatment and its side effects. When his health began to normalize, he set off on a solo driving trip through the upper Midwest, encountering small towns, beautiful vistas, and unique personalities in Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Wyoming, and Montana.
As part of the Local Authors Series at the Library’s Westport Branch, Clinkscale recounts the life-altering journey in a discussion of his book Leaving Cancer for the Circus: An American Odyssey Inspired by Love and Recovery.
