rolling hills and book spines create a heart

Keeping it Short: The Attraction of Short Stories and Essays for Readers and Writers Heartland Book Festival

A collection of short stories or essays is like a literary buffet. Writers experiment with a variety of subjects, formats, and styles, while their readers sample small bites of the authors’ ideas and imagination. In a conversation moderated by New Letters on the Air host Angela Elam, Kansas City authors Catherine Browder, Dawn Downey, and Kenan Orhan share writing techniques and talk about what inspires them to keep it short.
