Local inventor Joe Markley discusses how to take an invention through the many stages between conception and production on Thursday, November 13, at 6:30 p.m. at the Central Library, 14 W. 10th St.

Markley has extensive experience getting products from the conceptual stage to the physical stage – from idea to paper to prototype to finished product. His most recent invention is an ultra-thin electronic bookmark called BookfrienD.

Following a 17-year aviation career as an aircraft technician and a pilot, Markley bought an automotive repair business which he operated for three years until his first idea became reality. Since then, he has been on constant lookout for his next idea. Rarely, however, does he have a completely new idea. “Creating a better mousetrap is typically the path to success as an inventor,” he says.

Markley’s talk is in conjunction with the first Global Entrepreneurship Week, an initiative of the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. Global Entrepreneurship Week is scheduled for November 17-23, 2008.
