All Library locations will be closed Tuesday, December 24 & Wednesday, December 25, for the Christmas holiday.
Indigenous artists featured in the Library exhibition The Heart Is a Fist talk about their inspirations and techniques in a panel discussion moderated by Kreshaun McKinney, the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art’s director of learning and engagement.
Presented in conjunction with the Library’s Big Read 2022, the exhibition includes paintings, drawings, textiles, and sculptures by current and former students at Haskell Indian Nations University. It is curated by David Titterington, an adjunct professor of art at Haskell, and remains on display in the Genevieve Guldner Gallery through May 29.
The Big Read initiative is a nearly two-month celebration of poetry and reading, as well as Native American literature and culture, revolving around U.S. Poet Laureate Joy Harjo and her acclaimed book An American Sunrise. The exhibition and panel discussion are co-sponsored by Haskell Indian Nations University.
