Guys and Dolls

The Library’s fifth Script-in-Hand season closes with the Metropolitan Ensemble Theatre’s performance of Guys and Dolls, featuring music and lyrics by Frank Loesser.

Times Square in the 1950s is populated by mobsters and molls. This musical comedy classic centers on a high-roller who courts a Salvation Army officer in order to win a big pay-out. The seamless transition between dialogue and musical numbers influenced generations of composers, even as Loesser slipped classical elements into songs about such vices as craps and horse racing.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Kansas City Public Library (FOL). A reception for FOL members (including new members who join that day) follows the performance.
