On Saturday, October 11, the Central Library is open to registered Heartland Book Festival attendees only. Regular services, such as hold pickups, public computers and phones, and public meeting rooms, will not be available.
It was a chance encounter with a deaf-blind man in New York City several years back that inspired filmmaker Doug Roland to write and direct Feeling Through, the story of a teen wandering the New York streets and the bond he strikes with a deaf-blind man needing help to get home. In Robert Tarango, it features the first actor with both hearing and vision loss to play a big-screen lead.
The Library screens the historic, 18-minute film and a short documentary on its making. Roland then joins members of the local DeafBlind community in a discussion.
Both films are open captioned.
Co-presented by the Helen Keller National Center, Great Plains Regional Office.
