Joaquin Zihuatanejo is one of our country’s most entertaining and compelling poets, winning the 2008 Individual World Poetry Slam in Charlotte, North Carolina, and the 2009 World Cup of Poetry Slam in Paris.
The Texas native, whose work draws from his upbringing in the barrio in East Dallas, discusses and reads from his newest collection of poetry, Arsonist. He also leads a brief, interactive writing workshop designed to inspire participants to embrace the power of writing and help them put pen to page.
The event is co-presented by the David W. Newcomer IV and Gene Ann Newcomer Family Foundation Fund and Dr. Jay and Kathryn Peterson in memory of Professor John Klier.
