The Writers at Work series returns for the 2008-09 season with A Conversation with Ethan Canin hosted by Kansas City Public Library Director Crosby Kemper III, on Wednesday, September 10, at 7 p.m. at the Central Library, 14 W. 10th St.

America America follows the presidential campaign of Henry Bonwiller, a fictional Democratic senator, during the historic election of 1972.

Canin is the author of six previous books of fiction, including the novel Carry Me Across the Water; a collection of stories, The Palace Thief; and a collection of short stories, Emperor of the Air.

His work has also appeared in several periodicals, including The Atlantic Monthly, Esquire, The Paris Review, Granta, and The New Yorker which named him one of 20 “writers for the new millennium.”

Writers at Work is organized by Kansas City novelist Whitney Terrell and co-sponsored by Chris Davis and the English Department at UMKC. Canin’s book will be available for sale, and the author will sign copies purchased during the event.
