Growing up in South Dakota, Michael Krueger was drawn to the history and lore of the west and the Plains. That interest is reflected in his artwork, including a collection of his drawings from the past decade comprising the Library exhibit Michael Krueger: There From Here, Selected Drawings 2008-2018.

Krueger, who has taught in the University of Kansas’ Department of Visual Art since 1995, discusses his works and the research that informs their historical references. He looks at an evolving use of landscapes that suggests our connection to the land is complex and always unfolding. And he delves into the process of drawing—what it means to him and other artists.

Krueger’s Library exhibit, part of a series curated by Kansas City Art Institute students, runs through July 1 and is underwritten by the Richard J. Stern Foundation for the Arts and Pam and Gary Gradinger.
