Cultural Conversations: Teaching our Children

The Plaza Library partners with Cultural Crossroads to encourage communication in our community. Cultural Conversations is a program designed to offer opportunities for open discussion and exchange of ideas on multicultural topics. Meet and talk with others who are interested in cultural dialogue, exchange ideas, and learn about the many cultures in our society.

We are all familiar with the adage "it takes a village to raise a child" but what does that mean in practical terms -- and in America's diverse society? Our children learn at home, in school, from popular media, and from peer groups. How does the culture in which a child is raised affect the relative importance of those various sources? How do children from different cultures relate to each other's knowledge base?
