On Wednesday, September 23, at 6:30 p.m. at the Central Library, 14 W. 10th St., the Latino Writers Collective presents Cuarta Pagina.
This event of the writers’ series, in its fourth season, will focus on the anthology The Wind Shifts: New Latino Poetry and will be presented by its editor, Francisco Aragón, and two of its contributors, Brenda Cárdenas, and John Olivares Espinoza.
The collection offers a rich and varied selection of pieces from 25 of the most talented North American Latino and Latina writers. The poems give a glimpse into living and traveling overseas to life on the U.S.-Mexico border to the experience of living in Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, or New York City. The El Paso Times described the book as a “compelling and exhilarating addition to Latino letters.”
Aragón is the director of the literary program of the Institute for Latino Studies at the University of Notre Dame where he oversees, among other projects, Latino Poetry Review. Cárdenas is co-editor of Between the Heart and the Land: Latina Poets in the Midwest and has twice received Illinois Arts Council finalist awards in poetry. Espinoza’s work has appeared in various journals and anthologies, including The Bear Flag Republic: Prose Poems from California. He teaches writing, literature, and ethnic studies at The National Hispanic University in San Jose, California.
